Trump Stops Rally — Runs Off-Stage for Heartbreaking Reason

President Donald Trump stepped away from the stage during a speech on Long Island on Friday after recognizing the parents of a 12-year-old boy who was killed by a stray bullet in the Bronx last month.

The unscripted moment unfolded at the Nassau County Police Academy in Garden City, where Trump was speaking about crime and his administration’s law enforcement agenda when he mentioned Jacob Freytes.

Jacob, the son of Migdalia Martinez and retired NYPD Sgt. Jesus Freytes, was fatally shot on July 25 after being caught in gunfire outside a Bronx bodega.

“Two weeks ago, a 12-year-old boy named Jacob Freytes — you read about this one? — was tragically shot and killed by a stray bullet fired by a repeat offender in a gun battle,” Trump told the audience.

“Jacob was the son of a loving mom and a retired New York City police detective, and they are incredible people, and I think I heard that they may be with us today,” he continued.

“Are you with us?” Trump asked.

After spotting Martinez and Freytes in the audience, Trump left the podium and walked toward them as Martinez appeared visibly emotional.

The president embraced both parents and spoke privately with them for several moments before returning to the stage.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt later shared video of the encounter on social media and described it as an impromptu moment.

“In a beautiful impromptu moment, President Trump exits the stage in the middle of his speech to embrace Migdalia Martinez and retired NYPD Sergeant Jesus Freytes, whose 12-year-old son Jacob was tragically killed by a stray bullet in the Bronx,” Leavitt wrote.

Trump returned to the podium and again addressed the killing.

“Incredible,” Trump said.

“Horrible story,” he continued.

“What a horrible thing,” the president said.

“But we’re going after them,” Trump added.

“These are bad, sick people,” he said.

Jacob had ridden his bicycle to the Wanda Deli Grocery near Elliott Place and the Grand Concourse in the Mount Eden section of the Bronx when gunfire erupted during a street dispute, according to police accounts reported by New York media.

The 12-year-old was struck in the chest by a stray bullet and later died. Two adults were also wounded in the shooting.

Police arrested 45-year-old William Ferrer the following day and charged him with multiple offenses, including second-degree murder. Ferrer has pleaded not guilty.

Authorities have accused Ferrer of opening fire during the confrontation, but the case remains pending and the charges against him have not been proven in court.

The New York Post reported that Ferrer has an arrest history stretching back more than 25 years and involving prior allegations that included drug possession, drunk driving, menacing and criminal contempt.

Jacob’s mother has spoken publicly about the final time she saw her son before leaving for work on the day he was killed.

“I gave him a kiss, and I walked out, and we always do a little dolphin kiss,” Martinez said during an appearance on “Fox & Friends.”

“And I walked out and went to work,” she said.
