Canada Hits Trump’s Base — Pressure Suddenly Explodes

Canada is preparing a new round of retaliatory tariffs against the United States, escalating a trade confrontation that is increasingly moving from national policy into local political pressure. Beginning September 8, Canada will impose tariffs of 15%, 25% and 50% on U.S. products covering C$27.6 billion in imports. Ottawa says the measures are intended to match, dollar for dollar, the tariffs Washington imposed on Canadian goods and to concentrate the response on sectors already affected by U.S. trade actions.
