PART 4: THE TABLES TURN

The tension in the room shifted so violently that it felt almost tangible. The regular patrons, seeing the badge and realizing that Derek’s armor of invulnerability had just been pierced, began to stand up from their booths. Old farmers, local mechanics, and waitstaff rose to their feet one by one, their collective gaze fixed on the arrogant young man in red.

Derek’s confidence flickered for the first time. He looked around the diner, noticing that the fearful submission of the locals had vanished, replaced by a cold, unified defiance.

"This is bullshit," Derek stammered, taking a step backward as Sarah advanced toward him with a pair of steel handcuffs gleaming in her hand. "You can't do this! You're making a massive mistake!"

"The only mistake was thinking you could

walk into a community and treat human beings like garbage just because your family has a checkbook," Sarah said firmly, grabbing Derek’s arm and spinning him around against the back of a red leather booth, slamming the cuffs onto his wrists with a sharp, echoing click.

The patrons erupted into a low murmur of vindication. One of the truck drivers near the counter leaned forward, shaking his head. "Don't let the door hit you on the way out, princeling," he muttered, a grim smile finally breaking across his weathered face.

Derek thrashed against the cuffs, screaming obscenities as Sarah hauled him toward the exit. But his threats sounded hollow now, stripped of all their power. As they pushed past the doorway into the bright afternoon sunlight, the flashing blue and red lights of multiple state police cruisers illuminated the parking lot, signaling that the Vance family's reign of terror over the local businesses had officially hit a wall.
