PART 3: Victoria’s confidence shattered in full view of the entire company.

Tears rose before she could stop them. Her carefully controlled expression broke apart, revealing something few people had ever seen in her—raw shame. She looked at Daniel’s reddened cheek, then at the silver watch, and finally at the staff who had witnessed everything.
No boardroom could save her from this moment.
No title could soften what she had done.
“Daniel…” she said, but his name barely made it out.
He held her gaze for a second longer, and there was no triumph in his face. Only exhaustion. The exhaustion of a man who had given years of loyalty to someone who never truly saw him.
Then he reached for his company ID badge.
The small plastic card had always seemed ordinary. Yet when he unclipped it from his jacket, the motion felt ceremonial, final, almost heavier than the watch in his hand.
Everyone watched.
Daniel crouched slightly and placed the silver watch on the polished marble floor.
Then he let the badge fall beside it.
The sound was small.
But in the silent lobby, it echoed like a verdict.
Victoria flinched.
Daniel straightened and looked at her one last time.
“I gave you my loyalty,” he said, his voice cold and controlled. “You answered with a slap. I’m done protecting you.”
The words hit harder than anything else that morning.
Victoria’s lips trembled. She took a half-step forward, as if she might stop him, explain, apologize, or somehow gather the broken pieces of authority around her. But there was nothing to hold onto anymore.
“I was wrong,” she said, tears slipping down her face. “Daniel… I was wrong.”
He did not answer.
For years, Daniel had stayed because of a promise to Richard Hale. He had watched Victoria rise into power, watched her intelligence harden into pride, watched her loneliness twist into cruelty, and still he had remained—quietly correcting disasters, shielding her from board politics, defending her decisions when others wanted her gone.
And this was what it had led to.
A public slap.
A public truth.
A public ending.
The staff parted silently as Daniel turned and walked through the frozen crowd. No one tried to stop him. Some employees looked at him with shock. Others with respect. A few with guilt for having said nothing.
Ethan stepped aside first, eyes wet, as if he understood he was witnessing the fall of something far bigger than one man’s resignation.
Victoria remained alone in the center of the lobby.
Her tears were no longer hidden. Her chest rose unevenly as she stared at the badge and watch on the marble floor—the symbol of her father’s trust, and the symbol of the man she had just destroyed in front of everyone.
Around her, the glass walls reflected the scene from every angle, making her humiliation impossible to escape.
For the first time in her life, Victoria Hale was not the most powerful person in the room.
May you like
She was only the woman who had slapped the one person still trying to save her.
And now he was gone.
