"π₯ POLITICAL EARTHQUAKE! β TRUMP'S SHOCKING ANNOUNCEMENT ON ILHAN OMAR TRIGGERS DEMOCRATS!"
A fierce political confrontation has taken another turn, with the president raising the prospect of consequences far beyond public criticism.
His latest remarks came as a federal investigation continued and the targetβs legal team pushed back against the government.
The exchange began with a question about a possible immigration issue, but the answer quickly broadened the stakes. The president also delivered a blistering personal assessment while discussing what could happen if investigators establish wrongdoing.
President Donald Trump said Rep. Ilhan Omar could face jail or deportation amid an investigation involving her immigration records.
Asked about deportation, Trump said that was possible before adding, βShe could also go to jail.β
The comments came Tuesday during an Oval Office event announcing an incentive program for people who report fraud.
Fox Business correspondent Edward Lawrence had asked whether questions involving Omarβs age could lead to her deportation.

Trump called the Minnesota Democrat βa disgrace to our countryβ and characterized his broader criticism as his opinion.
The remarks followed the October 12 search of Omarβs Washington residence by Homeland Security Investigations agents acting under a warrant.
The Wall Street Journal reported that a federal judge authorized the search, which concerned how Omar obtained citizenship.
According to reporting on the inquiry, investigators are examining whether immigration documents misstated her age decades ago.
The question potentially matters because of the process through which a child can obtain citizenship when a parent naturalizes.
Former immigration judge Art Arthur discussed that issue with The National News Desk, describing the reported citizenship timeline.
Arthur, a Center for Immigration Studies fellow, said the account under examination involves citizenship derived through Omarβs father.
He explained that the relevant age and circumstances at her fatherβs naturalization would be critical to evaluating that account.
If she was already an adult, Arthur said, she would have needed to complete her own naturalization process.
His analysis depended on investigators establishing both her actual age at that time and whether she otherwise obtained citizenship.
Arthur said an adverse judicial finding under those circumstances could leave her with lawful permanent resident status.
βIt all depends on the evidence,β he said, emphasizing that he needed to examine the evidence before judging the case.
That assessment describes a possible argument, rather than a court ruling that Omar has already lost her citizenship.
Omar has denied wrongdoing, and her attorneys have challenged the investigationβs basis and how agents conducted the search.
They demanded the return of seized property and preservation of recordings made during the operation.
The Justice Department disputed their account, saying investigators complied with court orders and their legal obligations.
The disagreement has therefore extended beyond the underlying allegations to the procedures used during the search.
Omar, meanwhile, has publicly asked supporters for financial help as she prepares to fight the administration.
In an Instagram video posted Tuesday, she thanked people who had contributed small amounts and encouraged further support.
βIt is going to be a very expensive and challenging time,β she said.
She framed the investigation as intimidation ahead of the midterm elections and said she intended to keep campaigning.
Her appeal urged supporters to help Democrats win control of both congressional chambers and hold the administration accountable.
In a subsequent interview with Chris Hayes, Omar again denied wrongdoing and described the search as politically motivated.
She said agents searched for hours and removed 17 items, including phones and belongings belonging to her husband.
Omar also said she planned to move because her address had become public and her family faced threats.
Trumpβs comments have now added the possibility of imprisonment to the public debate over her immigration history.
No criminal charges against Omar were announced in the report describing his remarks, CBS 4 News reported.
For now, the presidentβs statements concern possible outcomes, while the investigation continues and Omar disputes the allegations against her.
