CHAPTER 6 – JONATHAN HART ARRIVES

Jonathan Hart did not shout when he was angry.
That was one of the reasons people feared him.
By the time he arrived at the seaside mansion, Claire was already there and the breakfast room had not yet been cleaned because Isabella, for once, refused to bend. Vivian hated that. Damien hated it more.
The two women were in the upstairs sitting room when the front doors opened downstairs.
Claire looked out from the balcony rail and murmured, “Your father’s here.”
Isabella stood, heart hammering unexpectedly hard.
She had not wanted to call him in panic. Had not wanted to become exactly what Damien and Vivian would accuse her of being—a spoiled daughter who ran home the moment marriage got difficult.
But this was not difficulty.
This was violence.
That distinction had taken her less time to accept than she would have expected.
Jonathan Hart entered the mansion in a navy linen suit with no tie, silver at his temples, and the controlled expression of a man who already knew enough to be dangerous. Two members of his private security team waited discreetly near the entrance but did not crowd the room. Jonathan didn’t need spectacle to occupy space.
Vivian moved to greet him. “Jonathan, I’m afraid there’s been an unfortunate misunderstanding—”
He walked past her.
Not rudely.
Not dramatically.
Simply as though her sentence had no authority to delay him.
He looked directly at Isabella.
That was all it took.
The moment she saw her father’s face, something inside her gave way. Not collapse. Recognition. Safety. The kind that lets you finally feel how frightened you’ve been because someone trustworthy is now in the room.
Jonathan’s gaze moved to her cheek.
His jaw tightened.
“Who did that?”
Damien answered before she could. “Sir, it was a heated private disagreement.”
Jonathan turned to him with a slowness more frightening than any sudden rage.
“So it was you.”
Vivian stepped forward. “No one is denying tempers rose, but Bella has overreacted, and—”
“Do not call her Bella,” Jonathan said.
The room went still.
He took one step closer to his daughter. “Isabella?”
She nodded once.
That was enough.
Jonathan did not demand a scene. He did not ask her to perform injury for him. He simply said, “You are leaving with me.”
Damien’s voice sharpened. “She’s my wife.”
Jonathan looked at him. “You mistook a marriage license for ownership.”
Claire almost smiled.
Vivian drew herself up. “Jonathan, be reasonable.”
“I am being reasonable,” he said calmly. “Unreasonable comes later if necessary.”
Then, to Isabella: “Did you document the room?”
“Yes.”
“Good.”
Damien stared. “You’re treating this like a legal issue?”
Claire answered before Jonathan could. “That’s because it is one.”
Vivian’s face changed at that.
Until then, she had still believed this might remain a family matter, meaning a matter her family controlled.
Now she understood what Jonathan Hart’s presence really meant.

Not outrage.
Consequences.
