PART 4: THE FAMILY’S DEFEAT

The morning sun had barely climbed over the hospital rooftop when the heavy wooden door of Room 412 flew open with a violent crash. Richard, Eleanor’s oldest son, stormed into the room followed by his frantic sister and a bewildered family lawyer, their faces contorted with rage and corporate panic.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Richard shouted, pointing an accusing finger at Julian, who was calmly peeling an orange for Eleanor by the bedside table. "Security! Get this scam artist out of here right now! We have the guardianship papers!"
Julian didn't flinch. He slowly set the orange slice down on a ceramic plate, wiped his hands on a clean napkin, and stood up to his full height, blocking Richard's path to the bed. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a single, laminated legal document, placing it cleanly on top of Richard's clipboard.
Richard sneered, glancing down at the paper. As his eyes scanned the bold text at the top—*Certificate of Marriage and Legal Power of Attorney*—all the color drained completely from his face. His mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water.

"This... this is impossible!" Richard stammered, looking wildly toward his lawyer. "You can't do this! She's old, she's incompetent! We'll sue for fraud!"
Eleanor shifted slightly against her pillows, her voice cutting through the panic like a sharp blade of ice. Her tone was quiet, yet it carried the commanding weight of a matriarch who had built an empire from the ground up.

"The only fraud in this room, Richard, is the concern you suddenly pretend to have for me," Eleanor said, her eyes locking onto her son with fierce dignity. "My husband, Julian, stays. You and your greed are trespassing."
The family lawyer quickly examined the seal on the document, shook his head, and whispered to Richard that the paperwork was entirely airtight. Defeated, humiliated, and utterly checkmated by a romance they had tried to crush, Richard and his sister turned on their heels and stormed out of the hospital room, slamming the door behind them.
