The Grand Aurelia Removes the Family Portrait

Chapter 15 - The Grand Aurelia Removes the Family Portrait
The Grand Aurelia’s main staircase displayed a portrait of Edward and Richard Ashcroft beneath the title THE VISIONARIES.
Employees removed it during restructuring.
Richard did not object.
The replacement exhibit contained Clara’s blueprints, Eleanor’s founding documents, staff photographs, and the names of hundreds of craftspeople who rebuilt the hotel.
Richard’s portrait remained inside the archive with accurate context.
He had expanded the company internationally.
He had also accepted a history that diminished his sister.
Grace refused to replace one hero with another.
Clara’s exhibit included failed designs, angry letters, and arguments with engineers. She became a full person rather than a saint created to correct an old villain.
The hotel restored Room 714 as a design and labor-history center.
Part of it remained an active workspace for apprentices from backgrounds historically excluded from architecture and hospitality management.
