Daniel Reads Every Report

Chapter 10 - Daniel Reads Every Report

Daniel moved out of Ashford Manor and opened every file Noah had sent him.

The reports documented unsafe staff housing, missing pension payments, food diversion, and manipulated charity audits.

Daniel had forwarded most to Victor without reading past the summaries.

He had been chief executive for seven years.

He told himself delegation was leadership.

In practice, it allowed his mother and attorney to decide which truths reached him.

An independent board asked Daniel to resign.

He did.

Some investors urged him to stay as a symbol of stability.

Daniel refused.

“A company that needs one family’s face to remain stable has not changed enough.”

He sold his private aircraft and transferred the proceeds into employee restitution.

He also entered therapy.

His guilt did not become Noah’s responsibility.

During their first private conversation, Daniel apologized without asking for forgiveness.

Noah answered:

“I may forgive you someday. I will not pretend your absence from the plan means your choices caused no harm.”

Daniel accepted that.

He began working with investigators to identify every approval he signed.

Several contracts exposed additional shell companies.

Responsibility became a schedule of documents, interviews, repayments, and lost status.

It was less dramatic than the breakfast-hall confrontation.

It mattered more.
