Chapter 13 - The DNA Result

The DNA result arrived the next morning.

Emma sat in a hospital family room with Noah asleep against her chest. She had refused to let him out of her arms except for medical examination. The doctors confirmed he was healthy, mildly cold, and unharmed.

Marcus entered carrying a sealed report.

Henry stood near the window. Rachel sat beside Emma. No cameras. No board members. No family representatives.

Marcus did not dramatize it.

“The test confirms Emma Collins is the biological mother. Henry Ashford is the biological paternal grandfather.”

Emma closed her eyes.

The result did not make her a mother. She had been one before laboratories, records, and powerful men agreed. But the paper could force the world to stop calling her grief delusion.

Henry sat down across from her.

“My grandson,” he whispered.

Emma opened her eyes.

“My son.”

“Yes.”

The correction mattered.

A judge granted Emma immediate temporary custody. Victoria was barred from contact. Dr. Mills and two clinic administrators were detained for questioning. The adoption lawyer surrendered after learning Rachel had testified.

The news spread anyway.

Reporters gathered outside the hospital. Headlines described an Ashford heir scandal, a stolen baby, a billionaire family crisis. Emma hated every phrase. Noah was not an heir before he was a child.

Henry offered a private exit.

Emma refused.

She walked through the main lobby carrying Noah herself. Henry followed several steps behind, not beside her, allowing the cameras to see who led.

Reporters shouted questions.

“Did Victoria steal your baby?”

“Will you claim the Ashford fortune?”

“Were you Daniel’s mistress?”

Emma stopped.

Henry’s security team tensed.

She turned toward the microphones.

“My son was taken from me,” she said. “I am taking him home. Everything else can wait.”

Then she kept walking.

Henry watched her with the expression of a man seeing strength he had once mistaken for social rank.

Outside, the morning was cold and bright.

Noah slept through every camera flash.

For the first time, Emma did not feel like she was escaping.

She was leaving with what belonged to no empire.

Her child.
