Why Sophia Hid the Truth

Chapter 04 - Why Sophia Hid the Truth
Sophia had not told her father because Ethan made secrecy sound like loyalty.
After their first violent argument, he apologized for three days. He blamed debt, insomnia, and pressure from investors. Helena told Sophia that powerful marriages survived moments ordinary people would misunderstand.
Then Ethan cried.
Sophia believed regret meant change.
When the pattern returned, Ethan reminded her that a public scandal would destroy thousands of jobs. He said Victor would take control of the company and prove Ethan had never been worthy of her.
Sophia did not want to become the rich daughter who summoned her father whenever marriage became difficult.
She wanted to solve her own life.
That desire became another tool Ethan used.
He isolated her gradually.
Her driver was replaced.
Her physician changed.
Her private calls were routed through a family security system managed by Helena.
Her credit cards continued working, so she did not recognize financial control immediately.
The cage was luxurious.
It was still a cage.
Pregnancy intensified everything.
The child’s birth would activate Sophia’s controlling vote inside Hale Family Trust. Ethan needed her signature before then.
Victor did not criticize her for waiting.
He said, “The person building the trap is responsible for the trap.”

Sophia answered, “But I kept explaining it away.”
“That is something to understand later. It is not permission for what he did.”
