The Camera in the Clock

Chapter 06 - The Camera in the Clock
Victor had installed a security protocol inside Vale House when Sophia moved there.
He never activated it because she asked him to respect her privacy.
Elena discovered that one device remained active: a small encrypted camera inside the antique hall clock.
The camera recorded only when the trust’s emergency phrase was spoken.
Sophia had said it during the argument.
“It was always mine.”
The clock preserved the next fourteen minutes.
Ethan demanding the signature.
Helena blocking the doorway.
Sophia refusing.
The wine spilling.
Ethan gripping her arm.
The belt leaving his waist.
The doors opening.
No one needed to rely on memory.
The video existed.
Ethan’s attorney asked whether the recording was legal.
Miriam answered that the device was located in trust-owned common space and activated by a beneficiary’s emergency code.
The attorney stopped objecting.
Ethan looked at the clock.

For years, he had admired it as proof of inherited elegance.
He never knew it could become a witness.
