The Uncle at the Board Table

Chapter 10 - The Uncle at the Board Table
Calvin called the emergency board meeting at Bennett Residential’s glass headquarters.
His resolution had three parts: reject Richard’s codicil, remove Noah from all company roles, and petition the court to suspend Emily’s inheritance claim pending a mental-health evaluation.
Victoria attended with makeup covering the fading scratch on her own wrist—the only mark from the kitchen, caused when Emily raised an arm to protect her face.
She wore white.
Calvin wore navy and spoke in the measured tone that had reassured investors for decades.
“This company is under attack by a young woman using pregnancy, grief, and manufactured scandal to seize control.”
Emily listened from the back row beside Sarah.
Noah sat on her other side.
Calvin expected them to interrupt. They did not.
He displayed the forged paternity report.
He presented edited clips from interviews in which Emily appeared emotional after her mother’s death.
He called the kitchen incident “a mutual family confrontation.”
Then he made his mistake.
He claimed the blue envelope had never existed.
Sarah stood.
“Would the board like to see Calvin Bennett delivering that nonexistent envelope to Victoria Bennett?”
The kitchen video filled the wall screen.
The room watched Victoria read the envelope.
They heard Calvin say, “Then we control the girl.”
They watched Victoria slap Emily.
They watched Noah enter.
No editing was necessary.
When the video ended, no one spoke.
Victoria rose.
“This footage was obtained illegally.”
June called from the front row, “It was obtained from my security system, in the house where I have lived and worked longer than you have successfully apologized.”
A few employees laughed before remembering the seriousness of the room.
Sarah presented the codicil, Richard’s audio message, the independent DNA result, and the document examiner’s report proving Noah’s signature had been forged.
Calvin tried to adjourn the meeting.
The board secretary refused.
Noah then walked to the table.
“I resign from management because I signed documents I failed to read. That negligence helped create this crisis.”
Calvin smiled, thinking he had won something.
Noah continued.
“I also request a criminal audit of every account supervised by Calvin Bennett.”
The smile vanished.
Emily took the microphone last.
“I am not asking this board to give me Richard’s company. I am asking it to obey the document he signed.”
Calvin leaned back.
“And if the board refuses?”
Emily looked toward the doors.
May you like
Two investigators entered with a warrant for the company servers.
“Then the board can explain its decision under oath.”
