The Falcon Ring

Chapter 06 - The Falcon Ring

The ring became the first undeniable detail.

Adrian had commissioned it months earlier after joining the board of Falcon Ridge Capital, a private investment group that financed several Reyes properties. He wore it constantly because he believed symbols could manufacture belonging.

The video showed the ring clearly.

Adrian claimed someone had copied it.

Camila stared at him as though he had spoken in another language.

“You think someone copied your ring, your cuff links, your jacket, and your hand?”

“I’m saying the angle is misleading.”

Emma looked down at the phone. For a moment, fear returned. Adrian had attorneys, money, and a talent for making confidence sound like evidence. She had an apron, a temporary employee badge, and a cracked phone case.

Then Roberto asked security to collect every camera feed from the estate.

Adrian’s face tightened.

There were cameras near the gates, hallways, kitchens, and service paths. None aimed directly at the ceremony for privacy, but the refreshment area sat partly inside a garden surveillance zone.

The head of security checked his tablet.

“One camera faces the rear table.”

Adrian stepped back.

Camila noticed.

That movement was the second undeniable detail.

While security retrieved the footage, Roberto asked a physician among the guests to secure the orange drink. The doctor placed it inside a clean container and warned everyone not to touch it.

Emma finally lowered her phone.

Camila looked at the red marks Adrian’s warning grip had left on Emma’s wrist earlier.

“You tried to stop me,” she said.

Emma nodded.

“Even after I grabbed you.”

“You didn’t know.”

Camila’s eyes filled, but she refused to let tears fall in front of the crowd.

“No,” she said. “I didn’t.”

She looked toward Adrian.

“I should have.”

Camila remembered teasing Adrian about the falcon ring because it was too dramatic. He said powerful families needed symbols. She had kissed the engraved bird before sliding the ring onto his finger at their engagement dinner.

Now that same symbol identified the hand above her glass. Love had not hidden the evidence. Love had purchased it.

Emma enlarged the frame without altering it. The ring, cuff link, and faint scar near Adrian’s thumb aligned with the man standing ten feet away. He looked at his own hand as though considering whether he could deny possessing it.
