Victoria on Trial

Chapter 13 - Victoria on Trial

Victoria’s trial drew national attention.

Her attorneys displayed photographs of schools built under her leadership and scholarship recipients who succeeded.

The prosecution did not deny that real work existed.

It showed what she did to preserve control over that work.

She signed Caleb’s false intake.

She approved medication that weakened his memory and energy.

She supervised the chamber preparation.

She ordered contractors to install the floor.

She tried to stop Daniel from opening it.

Victoria testified that she believed Caleb was psychologically fragile and needed a controlled return.

The prosecutor asked why a controlled return required hiding him beneath his own home.

Victoria said the chamber was temporary.

The unsigned twelve-year transfer appeared on the screen.

Caleb did not testify in open court.

His recorded interview was reviewed privately.

Lily testified only about the sounds.

She described the whistle, the taps, and Victoria telling her old houses make strange noises.

The jury convicted Victoria of fraud, unlawful confinement, falsifying records, and conspiracy.

At sentencing, she said she loved Caleb.
