Rose Amelia

Chapter 15 - Rose Amelia

Nora went into labor three weeks early.

The contractions began during a storm, and the sound of rain against glass brought back the hospital room. Her body froze before her mind understood why.

Maya, now part of Nora’s medical team, explained every movement and asked permission before touching her.

Richard waited outside.

He did not enter until Nora requested him.

The delivery was long but safe. A baby girl arrived just after sunrise, small and furious, with dark hair pressed flat against her head.

Nora named her Rose Amelia Ellis.

Rose for Nora’s mother’s favorite flower.

Amelia for the woman who wrote a consequence into law.

Ellis because Nora had filed for divorce and reclaimed her own surname.

Richard held the baby with both hands trembling.

“She has Grant’s eyes,” he whispered.

Nora heard the grief beneath the observation.

“She has her own eyes.”

Richard smiled faintly.

He asked whether Rose would carry Whitmore trust rights.

“Yes,” Nora said. “Through the independent structure. Not through you. Not through me alone.”

He nodded.

That night, Nora watched her daughter sleep beneath a plain cotton blanket. No press release announced the birth. No company photographer entered. The hospital record carried protective restrictions designed by Maya and Mara.

Grant learned through his attorney days later.

He requested a photograph.

Nora declined.

Fatherhood would be addressed through courts and child specialists, not entitlement.

Richard sat near the open door.

“Do you regret the name Amelia?”

“No.”

“She was not perfect.”

“That is not why I chose it.”

Nora looked at Rose.

“She saw the danger and left a door open.”

Outside, thunder moved farther away.

Inside, the baby breathed steadily.

May you like

The Whitmore family had spent generations treating children as heirs.

Nora held a person.
