The Boardroom Trial

Chapter 12 - The Boardroom Trial

Blair returned voluntarily.

She walked into the boardroom wearing a cream suit, accompanied by a criminal-defense attorney and two television reporters. She announced that she was a whistleblower exposing corruption in the Vale family.

Her performance was nearly flawless.

She accused Evan of harassment, Arthur of concealing illegal adoptions, and Hannah of manipulating the trust through a fraudulent pregnancy. She produced the fetal interest agreement and claimed she had protected it because hospital leaders planned to destroy the evidence.

Several directors began whispering.

Blair had understood something important: people often believed the first person who used the language of accountability.

Hannah let her speak for twenty minutes.

Then she asked to use the screen.

Naomi’s corridor video played first.

Blair’s heel pushed the glass.

The security logs followed.

Blair’s computer deleted the footage.

The altered paternity report appeared beside the genuine laboratory timeline.

Finally, Nora displayed metadata from the fetal interest agreement.

The document had been created six weeks after Hannah’s embryo transfer. Hannah’s signature had been copied from a donor form.

Blair did not react until Nora enlarged one hidden revision note.

The author field read: JULIAN VALE LEGAL.

Blair turned toward her attorney.

He stopped taking notes.

Hannah stepped forward.

“You didn’t return because you wanted the truth known. You returned because Julian was arrested and you needed a new story.”

Blair smiled thinly. “You think a bracelet makes you special?”

“No. It made you afraid.”

“The hospital belongs to people who understand it.”

“Then why did you need forged documents?”

Blair’s composure fractured.

“You were nothing before Evan found you.”

Hannah looked at her husband.

“No. I was simply easier to underestimate.”

The reporters recorded every word.

Blair made one final attempt.

She claimed the unborn baby’s DNA would prove Hannah’s deception.

Dr. Hale entered carrying sealed genetic results authorized by the court.

The child was genetically related to both Hannah and Evan.

The donor theory collapsed.

Evan closed his eyes.

Blair stared at the report as though the paper had betrayed her.

Hannah felt the victory arrive without joy.

The baby was Evan’s.

That fact did not restore the marriage.

It only removed the excuse he had used to betray her.

Federal investigators entered the room.

Blair’s attorney whispered that she should say nothing.

For the first time since the gala, Blair obeyed someone else.
