Julian requested a private meeting with Claire.
She agreed only with her attorney and advocate present.
He said Celeste designed the documents without explaining the full purpose.
Claire asked why he stayed silent when Celeste ordered her to kneel.
Julian looked down.
“I thought you would sign if the evening became uncomfortable enough.”
“Uncomfortable?”
“I did not know she would spill the soup.”
“You watched.”
Julian admitted the affair had lasted fourteen months.
Celeste told him Claire’s inheritance structure was unfair. She argued that Julian had helped expand the hospitals and deserved control.
The Ashford family company carried heavy debt after several failed clinics.
Merging with the Bennett fund would save it.
Julian convinced himself that delaying the public trust would protect employees.
He called the plan temporary.
Claire asked why temporary protection required a false psychiatric record.
He had no answer that did not reveal the belief underneath everything else.
He believed his judgment mattered more than hers.
Julian said he loved the baby.
Claire answered:
“You loved the authority you thought the baby would give you.”
She filed for legal separation and obtained an order preventing Julian from accessing her medical records.
