The Wedding Hidden Inside the Petition

Chapter 04 - The Wedding Hidden Inside the Petition

Daniel and Sloane were scheduled to marry on Thursday.

The wedding agreement included a clause Daniel had barely noticed. If either spouse became responsible for an incapacitated parent, marital assets could temporarily support the dependent family member.

Sloane’s attorney had drafted a second document linking that clause to Carter House.

Once married and appointed Evelyn’s guardian, Sloane could claim authority to manage the estate as a marital residence.

She had already promised the property to a luxury rehabilitation company.

The company intended to convert the mansion into an exclusive recovery retreat.

The sale contract was conditional on Evelyn being moved before the end of the month.

Daniel stared at the signature page.

His signature appeared beneath the property-consent clause.

He had signed a wedding-planning packet digitally from Germany.

Sloane told him it covered insurance and vendor deposits.

The property page had been inserted afterward.

A document examiner found the creation timestamp.

Sloane uploaded it twelve minutes after Daniel signed.

The marriage was not merely emotional access.

It was the final key to the house.

Evelyn looked toward the roses her husband planted forty years earlier.

“She told the developer I would enjoy a smaller room somewhere safer.”

Daniel asked where.

Sloane had reserved a bed at Mercer Memory Residence, a private facility partly owned by Dr. Grant Mercer.

His mother’s trust would pay eighteen thousand dollars each month.

The guardian would approve the invoices.

The money would circle from Evelyn’s assets into Sloane’s family.
