Carter House Did Not Belong to Daniel

Chapter 08 - Carter House Did Not Belong to Daniel
Carter House appeared in Daniel’s family photographs, military biographies, and wedding announcements.
He assumed he would inherit it.
The deed said otherwise.
Evelyn and her late husband, Colonel Thomas Carter, transferred the property into Sentinel Trust after watching another military family lose a home through predatory guardianship.
Evelyn held lifetime residence rights.
After her death, the mansion would become a veterans’ legal center.
Daniel could not sell it.
A spouse could not inherit it.
A guardian could manage maintenance but could not transfer ownership.
Sloane knew.
A highlighted copy of the trust appeared on her laptop.
She planned to challenge it by arguing the legal-center purpose had become impossible because the foundation lacked funding.
Then her rehabilitation company would purchase the property through a court-supervised sale.
The missing foundation money created the “financial necessity” she intended to cite.
Sloane had diverted funds and then planned to use the shortage as justification for taking the house.

The elegance of the scheme made Daniel nauseous.
