Why Sloane Chose the Garden

Chapter 06 - Why Sloane Chose the Garden
The haircut had a purpose.
Sloane planned to present the livestream as evidence that Evelyn could no longer manage personal hygiene. The broadcast was framed as a compassionate “makeover” for an elderly woman resisting care.
Before the live video, Sloane intended to provoke Evelyn into shouting.
Afterward, edited clips would remove the refusals and retain only Evelyn’s distress.
The result would support the guardianship petition.
The garden provided a beautiful background.
The wheelchair created visual dependence.
The uneven haircut created apparent self-neglect.
Sloane planned to tell the court Evelyn cut her own hair during confusion and then blamed others.
She had already sent Dr. Mercer a photograph captioned:
ANOTHER EPISODE.
The image timestamp showed it was taken while Sloane still held the scissors.
She had manufactured the symptom in front of her camera and expected control of the edit to become control of reality.
The accidental public setting destroyed that plan.
The streaming platform’s sponsor software automatically switched the rehearsal broadcast to public mode at the scheduled time. Sloane had forgotten to disable it.

Her own contract required cloud preservation of every sponsored stream.
The original video could not be deleted without the platform recording the attempt.
