The Video from the Ballroom

Chapter 06 - The Video from the Ballroom
The wedding video reached the internet before sunset.
A guest had recorded Celeste demanding the ring. The clip ended immediately after Amelia dropped it and said the hotel no longer belonged to her.
Without the bankers’ arrival or the explanation, the scene became whatever viewers wanted it to be.
Some called Amelia a gold digger exposed at the altar.
Others called Celeste a controlling matriarch finally challenged by a fearless bride.
The ring bouncing on marble became a meme.
Amelia disliked both versions.
One turned her into a villain. The other turned a complicated financial investigation into entertainment.
Celeste used the attention.
She appeared on a morning show wearing pale gray and speaking with controlled sadness.
“My son became involved with a woman who concealed a financial campaign against our family. I reacted as a mother, perhaps imperfectly.”
The host asked whether she regretted humiliating Amelia publicly.
Celeste paused for exactly the right amount of time.
“I regret that Amelia forced a private betrayal into a public room.”
Daniel watched from Margaret’s temporary office.
“She is good.”
Amelia stood behind him.
“She has practiced longer than we have known her.”
Celeste then made a dangerous accusation.
She claimed Hart Meridian purchased the debt using stolen Ashford information obtained through Daniel.
Federal regulators requested documents within hours.
Sarah was furious.
“She is trying to turn your relationship into insider misconduct.”
Amelia had anticipated the accusation. Every debt purchase had been completed through publicly marketed loan sales and independent due diligence. Daniel never provided confidential financial data.
But appearances mattered.
Amelia voluntarily submitted her communications, deal records, and personal devices to an outside review.
Daniel did the same.
For three days, they spoke only through attorneys because Sarah wanted a clean record.
The distance hurt.
It also protected them.
The review found no improper transfer of information.
Instead, it found something Celeste had not expected.
Six months before the wedding, someone inside Ashford Crown searched Daniel’s work email for Amelia’s name, Samuel Hart, and Hart Meridian Trust.
The searches came from Victor’s administrator account.
Celeste knew about Amelia’s plan long before the ceremony.
She had not discovered the debt purchase that morning.
She planned the public confrontation in advance.
The demand for the ring was designed to provoke Amelia into admitting ownership before the lender transfer became official. Celeste hoped the admission would support a claim that Hart Meridian acted for personal revenge.
Amelia’s refusal to explain saved the acquisition.
Her silence wounded Daniel.
It also prevented Celeste from stopping the transfer.

The wedding had been a trap.
Celeste simply did not realize Amelia had seen the floor plans.
