The Board On Speaker

Chapter 12 - The Board On Speaker
The emergency board call began at 7:10 p.m.
Eduardo insisted on taking it from the foyer.
Clara thought that was stubborn. Then she understood. The foyer was where Victor tried to break him. Eduardo wanted the first repair to happen in the same place. Pride was still there, yes, but now it stood beside purpose instead of blocking it.
Sofia sat on the staircase with Clara beside her. Victor stood near the front doors under the watch of two household security staff who entered only after Clara called them. They did not touch him. They did not need to.
The board members appeared by voice only.
Eduardo spoke first.
“Victor Ramos is removed from all temporary authority discussions, effective immediately.”
A board member protested. “Eduardo, we need context.”
“You will receive evidence. For now, hear this clearly: any document transferring operational control to Victor is void unless I personally reaffirm it after independent review.”
Victor stepped forward. “This is irrational.”
Eduardo looked at the phone. “Would you like me to play why?”
Silence.
Clara leaned toward Sofia. “You’re doing great.”
“I’m scared.”
“Me too.”
That surprised Sofia enough to look up.
Adults rarely admitted fear without turning it into a lesson.
Eduardo continued. “I have spent months mistaking isolation for recovery. That ends tonight.”
His voice cracked slightly at recovery.
Not weakness.
Truth wearing no armor.
“I will return to work with medical safeguards, independent oversight, and Clara Mendoza Santana as my designated family advocate.”
Clara’s eyes filled.
Victor looked at her with pure hatred.
Eduardo saw it.
So did Sofia.
The board call ended with legal instructions and stunned compliance.
Eduardo placed the phone back on the console table.
Victor whispered, “You’ll regret humiliating me.”
May you like
Eduardo looked at his daughter.
“No,” he said. “I regret not believing them sooner.”
