The Second Wedding

Chapter 20 - The Second Wedding

Ten years after the interrupted ceremony, Amanda married again.

The event was small.

No investors.

No corporate signing table.

No trust documents beneath flowers.

Sophie, now eighteen, stood beside her mother in a dark-blue dress and carried no basket.

Amanda’s future husband, David Chen, had known them for four years. He did not request authority over Sophie’s trust, company, or family decisions.

Before the vows, the officiant asked whether anyone wished to speak.

Sophie raised her hand.

Guests laughed softly.

She looked at David.

“What happens if Mom and I disagree with you?”

“I listen,” he said.

“What if listening doesn’t make you win?”

“Then I still listen.”

Sophie nodded.

“Good.”

The ceremony continued.

The ballroom ceiling camera remained visible but inactive for the private event. The doors stayed open to the garden.

The popular version of Sophie’s story said a cruel groom framed an eight-year-old girl at his wedding until surveillance footage exposed everything.

The fuller truth included more.

Sophie kept saying no.

Amanda stopped the ceremony.

The hotel preserved evidence.

Naomi followed the trust documents.

Investigators uncovered Hartwell.

A court protected the child.

A company changed its governance.

A mother learned that love required investigation before judgment.

After the vows, Amanda hugged Sophie.

“Are you okay?”

Sophie smiled.

“You asked before deciding.”

Outside, sunlight crossed the garden path.

No ring rolled from a hidden basket.

No document waited for a child’s signature.

This time, the wedding did not require anyone to become unbelievable for the adults to feel secure.
