The Bride Who Did Not Finish the Ceremony

Chapter 06 - The Bride Who Did Not Finish the Ceremony

The officiant asked whether the ceremony should continue.

Amanda looked at Julian.

His face still carried the expectation that she would choose embarrassment avoidance over her child.

She removed her veil.

Then she removed the engagement ring.

She placed both on the signing table.

“There will be no marriage.”

Victoria stepped forward.

“You are destroying your daughter’s future because of one misunderstanding.”

Amanda looked at the screens where Julian’s hand remained frozen above the hidden cup.

“This was not misunderstood.”

Julian tried another strategy.

He began crying.

He said pressure from investors had affected his judgment. He claimed Victoria and Keller convinced him that one staged incident would force Amanda to accept treatment Sophie desperately needed.

Amanda had loved him.

That fact made the scene harder, not less clear.

She remembered the patient man who taught Sophie to ride a bicycle.

The thoughtful partner who brought breakfast after difficult anniversaries.

The loving moments were real.

So was the man who had just used a child as evidence.

Amanda took Sophie’s hand.

“We are leaving.”

Naomi stopped her gently.

“After the child advocate arrives. We need the original statement while the details are fresh.”

Amanda nodded.

For once, leaving safely required slowing down instead of running.
