Lena’s Terms

Chapter 07 - Lena’s Terms

Lena sat against the white sofa with an ice pack wrapped in cloth against her cheek. The medical team waited outside at her request. Mara remained beside her. Security stood near the elevator. Sienna faced the windows, arms folded tightly over herself.

Grant stood in the center of the room.

For years, that position had belonged to him. The person in the center spoke. Others adjusted.

Not tonight.

Lena looked at him with eyes that were no longer asking for an explanation.

“You will listen,” she said. “You will not interrupt.”

Grant gave a short laugh, but no one joined it.

She continued. “You began controlling my money two years ago. You redirected mail. You told me I was forgetful when documents disappeared. You convinced me to stop seeing friends because they ‘disrespected our marriage.’ When I questioned you, you called me unstable.”

Sienna turned slowly from the window.

Grant’s face hardened. “This is performance.”

Mara lifted one finger. “She said no interruptions.”

Lena touched the ice pack more firmly. “The first time you grabbed me, you apologized for three days. The second time, you bought flowers. The third time, you said I had frightened you. Tonight you brought Sienna here to make humiliation look like negotiation.”

Sienna’s eyes filled.

Lena looked at her. “I am angry with you. But he lied to both of us differently.”

Sienna nodded once, ashamed.

Grant stepped forward. Security moved at the same time.

He stopped.

Lena reached for the black phone. “This recorded from the moment I photographed the forged signature.”

Grant’s face changed.

He had seen the phone on the floor. He had assumed the fall ended its usefulness. Instead, it had captured his voice: threats, admissions, the shove, the demand that Lena surrender company shares before the gala announcement.

Mara held out an evidence bag but waited.

Lena placed the phone inside herself.

“My first term,” she said, “is that the recording is preserved.”

Grant swallowed.

“My second is that you leave this home.”

He looked toward Mason’s voice on the table.

“And my third,” Lena said, “is that no one calls what happened a misunderstanding again.”
