Chapter 15 - Dakota Testifies
Dakota wore a dark blue suit when she testified.
Victoria’s attorney displayed photographs of holidays where the two women appeared happy.
“Mrs. Hale supported you after your mother died.”
“Yes.”
“She attended school events.”
“Yes.”
“She helped plan your wedding.”
“Yes.”
“Then why describe her actions as a long conspiracy?”
Dakota answered:
“I am describing records and choices. Good memories do not change signatures.”
The attorney suggested Dakota concealed the covenant to embarrass Victoria.
“My mother created it. The family office maintained it. Victoria signed annual acknowledgments.”
“Did you want control of Hale Crown?”
“I wanted the sale stopped and the records examined.”
“Those are forms of control.”
“They are forms of oversight.”
Dakota did not claim purity.
