The Dress in the Archive

Chapter 18 - The Dress in the Archive

The damaged wedding dress entered the Hale Textile Archive after the criminal appeals ended.

Dakota kept the narrow intact strip sewn into her simple ceremony dress.

The exhibit displayed the cut gown without photographs of Dakota crying.

The scissors remained sealed in court storage.

The plaque read:

A registered family textile was deliberately damaged during an attempt to prevent trust oversight and compel transfer of beneficiary rights.

Dakota removed a sentence claiming the destruction made her stronger.

It did not.

It hurt her.

Her choices afterward created meaning.

The replacement gown Victoria ordered was donated without its crystals to a theater costume program. It no longer served as evidence of a false public story.
