Charles read Eleanor’s letter aloud only after Dakota agreed.
My beloved daughter,
A dress cannot make you worthy of a family, and marriage cannot transfer your personhood. The lace is not a crown. It is a witness.
During my final audit, I discovered that Victoria was moving Hale properties through companies connected to her relatives. I lacked enough time to complete the investigation. I placed authentication patterns inside objects she considered decorative because people who dismiss women’s work often ignore the records woven into it.
If the lace is destroyed, do not mourn the proof. Each panel has already been mapped. Destruction itself will reveal knowledge and intent.
Do not marry to activate the covenant if the marriage is not your choice.
Do not cancel merely because someone wants your fear to appear voluntary.
Choose the ceremony, the person, and the future separately.
Dakota lowered her head.
Her mother had anticipated manipulation but refused to turn the wedding into an obligation.
The covenant could protect the assets.
