The Groom Outside the Door

Chapter 07 - The Groom Outside the Door
Evan Cole waited in the chapel until a staff member told him there was a problem.
He arrived at the bridal suite wearing a black tuxedo and found investigators photographing the damaged dress.
Victoria immediately turned toward him.
“Dakota is having doubts.”
Dakota looked at him.
“I am not.”
Victoria continued.
“She has become consumed by corporate suspicion. Postponing would protect both of you.”
Evan walked past her and stopped several feet from Dakota.
“What do you need?”
The question made her cry harder.
Not because it solved the crisis.
Because it did not tell her what to do.
“My dress is destroyed.”
“I see that.”
“The company vote is tied to the lace.”
“Then we separate the wedding from the vote.”
Victoria laughed.
“You cannot. That is the problem.”
Evan looked at Naomi.
“Can Dakota marry today without signing anything?”
“Yes.”
“Can the trust preserve evidence without forcing her to wear the damaged dress?”
“Yes.”
“Then the ceremony is still her decision.”
Dakota asked everyone except Evan and Naomi to leave.
She told Evan about the covenant, sale, and hidden records.
He listened.
Then he said, “I came to marry you, not to receive a position in your trust.”
The prenuptial agreement already prevented him from gaining authority.

Victoria had repeatedly suggested otherwise.
Another lie lost its purpose.
