The Public Foundation

Chapter 15 - The Public Foundation
The court ruled that Victoria’s fraud triggered Samuel Reed’s protection clause.
Lucas’s shares transferred into the Reed Patient and Worker Foundation.
The governing board included nurses, technicians, former patients, parents, youth advocates, and independent financial experts.
No Reed or Hale family member received a permanent seat.
Lucas would receive personal financial security for education and healthcare.
He would not inherit control of hospitals at ten.
When the judge explained the decision, Lucas asked one question.
“Does that mean nobody can use my birthday to take the hospital?”
“Yes,” the judge said.
“Good.”
The foundation reopened neighborhood clinics closed during North River’s expansion.
It funded care for children whose insurance files had been corrupted.
It also created a youth council.
At thirteen, Lucas could apply like any other participant.
