Ethan Meets His Son

Chapter 13 - Ethan Meets His Son

Noah moved into an apartment with Mara near Lily’s school.

He did not move into Ethan’s penthouse.

He did not call Ethan Dad.

Their first supervised visit took place in a community center.

Ethan brought no expensive gift.

They built a wooden model airplane.

Noah asked why Ethan was wearing green at the gala.

“It was your grandmother’s favorite color.”

“Did you know I liked green?”

“No.”

“You didn’t know anything about me.”

“No.”

Ethan resisted the urge to explain that he had been deceived.

The child already knew.

The more important truth was that deception had succeeded partly because Ethan stopped asking questions.

At the end of the visit, Noah asked:

“Did you mean it when you said stay away from your daughter?”

“Yes. I thought I was protecting Lily.”

“You were protecting her from me.”

“I was wrong.”

Noah packed the model pieces into the box.

“Next time we can finish it.”

The invitation was small.

Ethan treated it as precious without turning it into forgiveness.

He followed the schedule.

He arrived on time.

A relationship began through choices that did not make headlines.
