Mara Returns to Work

Chapter 15 - Mara Returns to Work

Mara’s nursing and therapy licenses had expired during confinement.

The state offered immediate restoration because of the fraud.

She requested full review and supervised retraining.

“I asked institutions to use evidence. I can accept the same standard.”

She returned part-time to a community rehabilitation center.

Patients knew her as Mara, not as the woman who exposed Crowe.

She declined interviews about Lily’s body and Noah’s childhood.

At home, recovery was difficult.

Mara wanted to know where Noah was every minute.

He wanted ordinary freedom.

A family therapist helped them create agreements.

Noah shared plans for long trips.

Mara did not inspect every message.

They argued about homework, shoes, and bedtime.

The arguments comforted Mara.

They were the sounds of time continuing.

She kept the silver key in a small box only after Noah agreed.

The transmitter it once opened no longer existed.

The key had completed its task.

It did not need to remain around Noah’s neck as proof that he belonged.
