Ethan and Lily Rewrite the House Rules

Chapter 14 - Ethan and Lily Rewrite the House Rules
Lily returned home only after the penthouse underwent an independent safety review.
Crowe-controlled devices were removed.
Medical data belonged to Lily and her care team.
Ethan could view it only under the access plan she helped choose.
The household rules changed.
No staff member could redirect Lily’s calls.
No doctor could enter without the appointment appearing on her shared calendar.
No family event could use her medical progress for fundraising.
Lily also chose a second home base with Mara and Noah.
Some weeks she wanted the familiar penthouse.
Other weeks she preferred their smaller apartment where dinner happened around a crowded kitchen table.
Ethan accepted that family did not require one house.
He began therapy to understand why protection so often became control when he was afraid.
His fear during the gala had been real.
So was the harm caused by treating an unknown child as danger before asking one question.
He worked with the trust’s child-safety team on new event policies.
Children approaching a stage or public figure were not automatically treated as threats.
Security responded according to behavior, not clothing or status.

The policy did not eliminate caution.
It separated caution from contempt.
