The Tunnel Under the Bar

Chapter 07 - The Tunnel Under the Bar

The tunnel contained surveillance equipment, county radio recordings, and photographs of every Iron Wolves member.

Vale had watched the club for years.

He used their motorcycles and reputation as cover for trucks entering the abandoned mine. When residents reported nighttime engines, deputies blamed the bikers.

The mine was not storing drugs.

It held barrels of industrial waste from Vale Development construction sites.

Mara discovered the dumping while working as a county environmental analyst.

Cole found evidence in truck engines he serviced.

Vale staged the cabin fire to erase Mara and the bridge explosion to silence Cole.

Jack had been useful alive.

His club gave Vale a permanent suspect.

Lena found a recent recording.

Vale spoke with county judge Marcus Hale.

“The girl reaches Rourke, we take the card during the raid.”

“And Mara?”

“Move her before dawn.”

“Where?”

“To Founders’ Field.”

Founders’ Field was where the Iron Wolves held their annual veterans memorial ride.

Thousands of motorcycles would arrive there the next morning.

Vale planned to hide Mara’s transfer inside the event traffic and blame any incident on the club.

Jack called every chapter of the Iron Wolves.

He did not ask them to fight.

He asked them to ride with cameras on.

At sunrise, four hundred motorcyclists entered Founders’ Field in organized lines. Every helmet camera streamed publicly.

Vale’s convoy arrived from the opposite road.

Deputies expected frightened suspects.

They found witnesses.

Lena stopped the lead van.

Inside, hidden beneath equipment cases, was Mara Rourke.

She was alive, handcuffed, and weak—but conscious.

Ellie ran to her after medics cleared the scene.

Mara held her daughter and looked across the field at Jack.

“You kept the promise.”

Jack shook his head.

“She did.”
