The Plate of Fried Chicken

Chapter 17 - The Plate of Fried Chicken
One year after the night Victor brought Lily inside, the diner recreated no anniversary.
Lily hated ceremonies about bad days.
She entered Booth Seven after school and ordered fried chicken with potatoes.
This time, she ate before anyone placed papers near her.
Claire sat across from her.
“Do you remember the envelope?”
“Yes.”
“Do you want it destroyed?”
The original remained evidence but a certified copy could be burned.
Lily thought for a moment.
“No. Put it in the archive.”
“Why?”
“Because he made it look normal.”
The document used polite language, clean paper, and official seals to take everything from a child.
The archive displayed it beside the plate receipt Claire paid that night.
One object represented law used without care.
