Samuel Miller

Chapter 08 - Samuel Miller
Samuel was found beneath Crosswell’s oldest grain warehouse.
Investigators followed utility payments from Green Hollow to an unregistered medical room.
Ruth entered first.
Her son sat beside a narrow window reading an old newspaper. His hair had turned white. One leg was supported by a brace.
He looked up.
“Mom?”
Ruth crossed the room and struck his shoulder before hugging him.
“You let me bury you.”
Samuel cried.
Federal handlers had promised his death declaration would last months.
Then the witness program contact disappeared.
Richard’s men intercepted Samuel and held him under another identity.
He remained alive because his biometric signature controlled the employee trust.
Richard needed him.
Samuel refused to authorize a transfer that would dissolve the trust permanently.
When he saw Lily, he understood.
“My daughter?”
Evelyn nodded.
Samuel reached toward Lily, then stopped.
“May I?”
Lily looked at Evelyn.
Then she crossed the room.
Samuel held her carefully.
The reunion contained no easy repair.
Lily did not know him.
Ruth had missed ten years.
Evelyn had survived imprisonment.
Samuel had survived another kind.
Detective Ortiz collected his statement.
To activate the restitution trust, Samuel needed three things:
The original pension ledger.
The Cross family key.
A vote recorded at the original Crosswell meeting table.
The meeting table was Booth Seven.
Before becoming a diner booth, its metal base belonged to Crosswell’s first employee council table.
Harrison later donated it to Ruth, believing the trust mechanism had been destroyed.

The diner was not merely where evidence was hidden.
It was the legal location where Crosswell employees could reclaim the company.
