Victoria’s Letter

Chapter 17 - Victoria’s Letter
Four years into her sentence, Victoria wrote to Elena.
She admitted knowing the porridge was hot.
She said she did not intend serious injury, only fear and humiliation.
The distinction sounded important to Victoria.
It did not to Elena.
Victoria also admitted she believed Elena’s pregnancy would make her easier to control.
She had mistaken caution for weakness.
The letter asked whether Lucia might someday know her grandmother.
Elena and Noah discussed it with a family therapist.
They replied together:
Lucia’s future contact will depend on her age, wishes, safety, and your continued accountability. Family title does not create access.
Victoria wrote back once.
She accepted the answer.
Years later, she helped investigators recover another offshore account.
The money returned to workers.
