The Child at the Center of the Trust

Chapter 03 - The Child at the Center of the Trust

Noah Ashford had owned thirty-one percent of Ashford Hospitality.

His will appeared simple.

If he died unmarried and without children, his shares returned to the family holding company controlled by Victoria and Daniel.

But the will stored with Victor Sloan was not the original.

Elena carried a copy Noah gave her after the wedding.

It contained a different clause.

If Noah had a spouse or child, the shares entered the Ashford Hearth Trust—a permanent fund for hotel employees, retired workers, and community meal programs.

Elena and the baby would receive financial security, but no private family member could control the shares alone.

The child’s birth would activate the transfer.

Victoria had eight months to erase the marriage and discredit Elena before the baby arrived.

Daniel reviewed corporate accounts.

Since Noah’s disappearance, Victoria had used his shares to approve the sale of employee housing, reduce pension contributions, and borrow against the company’s meal foundation.

Hundreds of millions had moved through companies represented by Victor.

Daniel had signed several approvals.

He claimed he believed the money supported hotel renovations.

Elena answered quietly.

“You signed without reading the employee impact reports Noah sent you.”

Daniel remembered the reports.

He had forwarded them to Victor.

Victor assured him Noah was emotional after arguing with Victoria.

Convenient explanations had become a family business system.

District Attorney Lena Ortiz arrived after receiving the security footage from the camera’s independent archive.

She examined the two wills.

The original had been notarized by Arthur Price, a retired Ashford accountant who vanished after Noah’s yacht fire.

The newer version carried the same notary number but a different signature.

Ortiz ordered every trust transaction frozen.

Victoria’s composure cracked.

“You cannot freeze a company employing twenty thousand people because a maid produced a photograph.”

Elena stood.

“I am not asking anyone to believe me because I am pregnant or because Noah loved me.”

She placed the marriage video, original will, and ultrasound on the table.

“I am asking them to examine the records you tried to erase.”
