The Midnight Vote

Chapter 04 - The Midnight Vote

Royce Meridian’s board planned to vote at midnight on the sale of its infrastructure-data division to Northstar Dominion.

The transaction was worth $3.6 billion.

Public documents promised innovation and international expansion.

A confidential appendix transferred port traffic, private aircraft routes, medical logistics, and commercial tenant data into a private surveillance network.

Amelia had rejected the sale through the trust’s anonymous oversight channel.

Helena did not know whether Amelia would appear at the gala.

When Ethan requested that his wife attend, Helena recognized an opportunity.

The marital release placed inside Ethan’s dinner folder contained a clause waiving Amelia’s right to challenge any transaction involving “remote family interests.”

Ethan thought it was a standard spousal consent page required for his promotion.

Helena expected him to pressure Amelia into signing.

The planted ring created the leverage.

If Amelia signed, the sale proceeded.

If she refused and reacted publicly, Helena would claim the secret beneficiary was unstable and attempt an emergency stewardship transfer.

The slap, however, had not been in Helena’s written plan.

Ethan added that choice himself.

The ballroom cameras recorded it.

So did the microphone inside Amelia’s master ring.
