Ethan demanded to see the prenuptial agreement.
Naomi gave him the copy bearing his signature.
The document clearly stated that Amelia was beneficiary of confidential Sterling family trusts and that neither spouse gained rights through marriage.
Ethan had signed each page.
He remembered the meeting.
He had been checking messages from a potential investor while Amelia’s attorney reviewed the terms.
When asked whether he understood, he said yes.
He assumed the trust contained a house and modest investments.
“You hid billions from me,” he said.
Amelia looked at him.
“I protected confidential assets. I did not hide the rules.”
“You let me think I built this alone.”
“You built your career. You did not build the land, patents, credit guarantees, and equity beneath it.”
Ethan’s face changed.
The distinction threatened the story he told about himself.
