Meridian’s Empty White Room

Chapter 04 - Meridian’s Empty White Room
Military investigators and federal agents entered the Meridian facility at 11:26 p.m.
The public floors contained veterans recovering from surgery, burns, and traumatic injuries.
The basement medical wing did not appear on public plans.
Staff said it stored equipment.
Behind a secured door were six white patient rooms.
All were empty.
The beds remained warm.
A nurse named Rachel Stone told investigators that three men had been moved twenty minutes earlier.
One was registered as David Miller.
He had repeatedly insisted his name was Captain Daniel Mitchell.
The facility director described that claim as post-traumatic confusion.
Rachel disagreed.
Daniel knew operational details, his family’s address, and the names of soldiers from his unit.
He also carried a scar on his left shoulder matching military records.
Rachel copied his file after administrators ordered her to increase his sedative medication before the transfer.
“Where did they take him?” Avery asked.
Rachel handed him a vehicle log.
A Blackridge medical convoy was traveling toward Fort Graydon, a decommissioned Army hospital leased to a defense research company.
The transfer order came from General Shaw.
Sarah listened through a secure call.
“Can you stop them?”
Avery looked at the clock.
“They have forty minutes.”
Marcus joined an air-support team while federal officers established road checkpoints.
The convoy never reached the highway.
Its trackers disappeared simultaneously.
Rachel studied the route map.
“There’s an old freight tunnel beneath the yard.”
Blackridge had used the tunnel before the base closed.
The medical vehicles could travel underground and emerge six miles away.
No official map showed the exit.
Daniel’s memory card contained one.
He had photographed Blackridge shipping plans before the attack.

The tunnel ended near a small military airstrip.
A private aircraft was scheduled to depart in twenty-seven minutes.
