The Board Meeting at Northstar

Chapter 10 - The Board Meeting at Northstar
Derek attempted to chair Northstar’s emergency board meeting remotely.
His access failed.
The independent trustee presented Emma’s medical statement, Lucy’s guardianship challenge, and the clinic warrant.
Grace Lin, Northstar’s operations director, became interim chief executive.
The private equity buyer demanded the sale proceed.
Its attorneys argued that Emma’s disappearance constituted abandonment.
Then Emma joined by secure video from the hospital.
Her voice was weak.
Her decision was not.
“I reject the sale.”
Derek’s attorney called her medically compromised.
An independent physician confirmed she understood the transaction.
The trustee suspended every vote connected to Derek.
The sale expired at midnight.
Employees expected layoffs after the buyer withdrew.
Northstar’s trucker-clients created an emergency cooperative line of credit. Thousands of independent drivers had depended on Emma’s software to resist predatory contracts.
