Lucy’s Interview

Chapter 12 - Lucy’s Interview

Lucy completed one forensic interview in a child-friendly room.

No motorcycles.

No television cameras.

No relatives behind the glass except a neutral advocate.

She described the locked clinic, Derek’s lies, and her escape.

A kitchen worker at White Quarry had left a service door unlatched. Lucy took Blue, the pendant, and Emma’s note. She walked through woods until a delivery driver found her near a gas station.

The driver offered to call police.

Lucy saw Derek’s photograph on a missing-child alert listing him as guardian.

She feared officers would return her.

Then she noticed a Grey Wolves charity sticker on a truck-stop window.

The clerk directed her to Miller’s Diner, where riders gathered on Fridays.

Lucy walked the final mile.

The interviewer asked why she trusted Mason without knowing him.

“Mom said the wolf was loud but safe.”

Mason heard the recording later and laughed through tears.

Emma had remembered him more kindly than their silence suggested.
