Celeste’s Child

Chapter 12 - Celeste’s Child
Celeste remained pregnant for another two weeks.
She entered labor under her own name.
Rachel did not attend.
She sent a short message:
Make them read the bracelet aloud.
Lena did.
Celeste delivered a healthy son.
She named him Noah Ward.
Ethan requested recognition as the father.
Celeste allowed DNA confirmation but denied him immediate custody rights pending the criminal case.
Joanna Ward, the biological mother shared by Ethan and Celeste, was found living in an assisted-care home under another name.
Richard’s attorneys had paid the facility for years.
Joanna remembered both children.
She had searched for Ethan until threats forced her to stop.
When she learned Celeste’s child existed, she asked one question:
“Does his record have the right mother?”
“Yes,” Lena said.
Joanna cried.
That answer mattered more than the Hale surname.
Celeste chose not to raise Noah as an heir or evidence.
She moved into a small apartment near Joanna and began counseling.
