Nora entered court with her hair grown into a neat chin-length cut.
Daniel’s attorney displayed photographs from their marriage.
He attended her conferences.
Cooked meals during exams.
Helped test presentation equipment.
“You loved him.”
“Yes.”
“He supported your doctorate for years.”
“Sometimes.”
“Then the night before the defense was not representative of the entire marriage.”
Nora looked toward the jury.
“A relationship does not need to be dangerous every day before one person’s refusal becomes unsafe.”
The attorney asked whether Margaret’s statement about women and universities reflected an older generation’s opinion rather than criminal intent.
Nora answered:
“An opinion became conduct when she used scissors and another person’s body to enforce it.”
