Ava Visits Tyler
Chapter 19 - Ava Visits Tyler
Seven years after the trial, Ava visited Tyler once.
He had completed accountability programs and worked in the prison education library.
He apologized without calling the push an accident.
“I wanted you frightened enough to sign,” he said. “I knew the railing was behind you.”
Ava waited.
“I told myself you would catch it.”
“You did not check whether I did.”
“No.”
He asked whether she forgave him.
“I no longer need your punishment to organize my future.”
“That is not forgiveness.”
“No.”
She stood with her cane, which she still used on difficult days.
