Clara Testifies

Chapter 15 - Clara Testifies
Clara testified about the dinner without exaggeration.
Damian’s attorney displayed photographs from their marriage.
Vacations.
Anniversaries.
Damian helping Clara after her mother’s death.
“You loved him.”
“Yes.”
“He supported you.”
“Sometimes.”
“He did not spend every day frightening you.”
“No.”
“Then why describe one dinner as proof of coercion?”
Clara looked toward the jury.
“Because a relationship does not need to be dangerous every day before one refusal becomes unsafe.”
The attorney asked why she concealed the scale of the Rowan trust.
“I did not disclose confidential amounts. Our prenuptial agreement disclosed the legal structure.”

“Would Damian have behaved differently if he knew?”
“He should not have needed my balance sheet to keep a plate on the table.”
