Charles Tells Nathan the Truth

Chapter 10 - Charles Tells Nathan the Truth

Charles met Nathan in the library with attorneys present.

Nathan held the hospital record as if it belonged to someone else.

“You knew?” he asked.

“No,” Charles said. “I suspected Thomas had a relationship, but Margaret denied a child existed.”

“Am I your nephew?”

“Biologically, yes.”

Nathan laughed bitterly.

“So the company was always mine too.”

Charles shook his head.

“Kinship is not ownership.”

“My father was a Grant.”

“Your father’s trust had conditions. It required truthful registration, independent management, and no fraud against another beneficiary.”

“Margaret missed the deadline.”

“She may have concealed evidence, which allows a court to review it.”

Nathan looked toward Amelia.

“Then why did you let me build everything without telling me?”

“We did not know. And you did build parts of it.”

Nathan wanted the revelation to convert humiliation into entitlement.

Charles refused.

Being related to the people he defrauded did not erase the fraud.

It complicated the restitution.

It did not cancel it.
