Nathan’s Trial

Chapter 15 - Nathan’s Trial

Nathan’s defense argued he trusted his mother and reacted during an emotional marital dispute.

The jury watched the dining-room footage.

He placed the transfer papers beneath Amelia’s plate.

He demanded her signature.

He threw the porcelain toward her side of the table.

He reached for another plate after she refused again.

The arrival of the convoy stopped what came next.

His attorney asked Amelia whether Nathan had ever been loving.

“Yes.”

“Generous?”

“Yes.”

“Supportive of your career?”

“Sometimes.”

“Then the marriage was not the violent prison now described.”

Amelia answered:

“A home can contain kindness and still become unsafe when refusal brings fear.”

Nathan was convicted of assault, coercion, attempted fraudulent transfer, and conspiracy.

He received thirteen years.

Margaret received twenty-one.

The court permitted Nathan to pursue a legitimate paternity-trust claim separately, under independent supervision.
